One of the more intriguing product introductions from 3D Systems at the Euromold show is the ProJet® 1200, a micro SLA 3D printer. Many industry watchers surmised that 3D Systems would introduce a small SLA 3D printer after the company initiated a patent lawsuit infringement against Formlabs and its Form 1 SLA 3D printer. But I doubt that many thought such a product introduction would be so soon.
The ProJet® 1200 is targeted for applications that require small, precise, detail-rich parts or casting patterns, such as jewelry, electronic components and dental wax-ups. It’s about the size of a coffee maker, so it’s definitely desktop friendly. It has an all-in-one cartridge and integrated curing cell and is priced at $4,900. The print volume is 43 x 27 x 180 mm (1.69 x 1.06 x 7.08 in.), with layer measurements of 30 micron at a 585 dpi resolution.
This printer integrates 3D Systems’ VisiJet® FTX Green material – a durable and rigid material tailored for plastic prototyping and casting patterns. Print times are reported to be fast, you can print 12 dental wax-ups in an hour and five rings in two hours.
