AMUG Innovators Showcase to feature Scott Crump

Last year’s AMUG Conference introduced the Innovators Showcase, a segment where an innovator in additive manufacturing shares insights, experiences and thoughts to the users group. It is an excellent opportunity to get to know key developers of this industry.

At the 2016 AMUG Conference (April 3-7 in St. Louis, Mo.), the innovator will be Scott Crump, co-founder of Stratasys® and inventor of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM®).

On Wednesday, April 6th, 2016, Mr. Crump will take the stage for a casual, relaxed interview during the 28th annual AMUG Education and Training Conference. He will respond to questions asked by the showcase host and conference attendees with the intent of getting to know the man behind the technology and gaining guidance from his decades of experience in building and leading an innovative company in the additive manufacturing industry. Following this on-stage conversation, Mr. Crump will be presented with AMUG’s Innovator Award.

Mark Barfoot, AMUG president, said, “We are very pleased that Scott Crump has agreed to participate in the Innovators Showcase. The decision to invite him was unanimous and immediate because of the impact that he has had on the industry, both through the technology he created and his personal contributions.” Barfoot continued, “The 2016 Innovators Showcase will be a huge success; just imagine an intimate conversation with Scott Crump that is witnessed by hundreds.”

Scott Crump co-founded Stratasys with his wife, Lisa Crump, in 1988. He is the company’s chief innovation officer, a director on its board and chairman of the executive committee. Previously, he has held the roles of CEO, chairman, and treasurer. Prior to creating Stratasys, Scott Crump was co-founder and vice president of sales of IDEA, Inc., a premier-brand manufacturer of load and pressure transducers, which was purchased by Vishay Technologies, Inc.

Barfoot said, “While the Innovators Showcase will be a highlight of the four-day AMUG Conference, we are building a can’t-be-missed agenda packed with informative keynotes, presentations and workshops. For example, attendees will hear how Scott went about inventing FDM and then have opportunities to learn how to get the most out of Stratasys FDM systems.”

Designed for both novice and experienced additive manufacturing users, the conference agenda topics range from technology basics to advanced applications to business considerations. Although the agenda is still in development, AMUG anticipates having nearly 200 presentations, workshops and hands-on training sessions, and micro user group sessions provided by Diamond and Platinum Sponsors.

The AMUG conference will also feature its annual Technical Competition with awards for exemplary applications of additive manufacturing and superior part finishing. The competition provides a forum for users of additive manufacturing technologies to display their prowess with the technology.
