After making a significant acquisition of Xilinx last year, processor provider AMD still has time to ensure that its existing products are updated. The company recently released its first quarter Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise driver. A focal point of the update was enhancing the functionality of its user interface to reflect a growing move toward remote work and the need for an improved workflow.

The new user interface has been simplified and redesigned to be more modern and user- friendly. Instead of the same page and control panel that has been around since 2015, users are greeted with a modern interface designed for better functionality. It includes a new home tab that allows users to access and launch recently used applications and makes it easier to organize apps, driver status and tutorials. Users can also check media and captures or start screen recording without leaving their home screen.

The Radeon PRO Overlay is the in-app feature for workflow efficiency that enables users to stay in the project while still having one-click access to other features. Whether a user needs to control Media Capture and Sharing, monitor performance or change graphic settings, the overlay provides one-click access.

The new Record & Stream, previously named Radeon PRO ReLive, takes high-resolution screen capture and video streaming to new, easier levels. Enhanced capabilities have been built into the software, providing more productive ways for team members to collaborate, whether they are training or presenting. Although at one time more of a gaming must-have, these types of options are seen as more of a need in the modern workplace. Being able to easily livestream, publish or chat within one interface helps streamline projects and keep team members better connected.

With any update, performance is always an essential component. AMD continues to make improvements in this arena with each new release. According to the company, this latest driver is 45 percent faster in the SPECviewperf 2020 benchmark CATIA-06 viewset results than the AMD Radeon PRO Software for Enterprise from Q4 2020 when using the Radeon PRO W5700 GPU. Another performance-enhancing update was made to the Performance Tuning layout. Along with a new Fan Tuning (formally Fan Control), which lets users adjust fan speed and monitor clock speeds and temperature, users can also set performance limits and monitor hardware performance in real time.
