AMD Announces Two New 7nm Graphics Cards

The Radeon Pro W5500 and W5500M target the entry-level professional market.

Earlier this week, computing hardware provider AMD announced two new graphics cards in its Radeon family: the AMD Radeon Pro W5500 for desktop workstations and the AMD Radeon Pro W5500M for mobile workstations. Both cards target professional users in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) and design and manufacturing.

The AMD Radeon Pro W5500 follows the Radeon Pro W5700 announced last November, and is similarly based on AMD’s RDNA microarchitecture and 7nm process.Compared to the W5700, the W5500 is a less expensive but less powerful graphics card.

The W5500 features 22 compute units, up to 5.35 TFLOPS, 8GB of GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of up to 224GB/s, a 128-bit memory interface, 4 DisplayPort outputs, and a maximum power consumption of 125W. The specs on the 5500M are largely the same, but with a reduced 85W power consumption, 4.79 TFLOPS maximum, and 4GB of GDDR6 memory.

AMD expects the Radeon Pro W5500 to be available in mid-February 2020 for a price of $399. The company expects the W5500M to be available in mobile workstations starting in spring 2020.
