Yesterday AMD announced their Z-60 processor for the tablet market. The announcement certainly stressed battery life and graphics. There is already quibbling about GHz this and MHz that, but it will be of interest to see if it will be the x86 based processor that actually cracks the tablet market. Much to Intel’s chagrin the mobile market has to date been ARM’s to lose.
While, the Z-60’s design was well in the bag before August 1, this release twigged the memory of Jim Keller’s return to AMD. Yes there are comings and goings all the time but Jim has a successful track record and his recent stint at Apple could only have added to his mobile insights. Time will tell if the Z-60 or its descendants win some successful sockets.
