A Slew of New Functions Await AutoCAD Users

The latest release of AutoCAD products promise to help designers and engineers become more productive. AutoCAD 2010 includes new free-form design tools so that you can more easily explore ideas in 3D models to create almost any shape.

A new PDF import and underlay and improved publishing features can improve communications. In addition, constraint-based parametric drawing tools have been added to help define persistent relationships between objects. AutoCAD 2010 supports 3D printing so it is easier to produce physical 3D models and prototypes by connecting to on-line demand 3D printing services or personal printers. The AutoCAD 2010 portfolio includes the following applications built on the AutoCAD platform:

For those of you who use AutoCAD LT, the 2010 version will be available March 24, 2009. Autodesk Design Review 2010 software is available as a free download for anyone who uses any Autodesk product including the AutoCAD 2010 products. It includes tools to review, mark up, and measure documents. The software helps you participate in an all-digital design review process including the ability to view and markup PDF files.

Ponderosa Roasting and Autodesk reseller Hagerman & Company used Inventor software to design a custom, 15-kilogram coffee roaster. The effort won Ponderosa Inventor of the Month from Autodesk.

Ponderosa Roasting designs machines that precisely control every variable in the roasting process – from how fast the beans run in the drum, how much airflow the beans are exposed to, and how much heat is applied by the burners at any given moment.

In other news, Engineers at Ponderosa Roasting used Autodesk’s Inventor software to design and manufacture coffee roasting machines that provide greater control over roasting processes. They used digital prototyping to create an accurate 3D model that was used to streamline the design-to-manufacturing timeline. Ponderosa developed a custom, 15-kilogram roaster in four weeks – a process that used to take up to six months.
