Liquid rocket engine fuel injectors are critical to ensuring optimal combustion performance by controlling efficiency and stability. Interstellar Technologies has had great success utilizing the metal additive manufacturing process to manufacture its injectors by drastically reducing the part count and simplifying the manufacturing process.

The challenge comes when focusing on performance improvement. Different AM platforms require different levels of post-processing machining to achieve the desired performance levels. About the Speakers:
Jeff Thornburg, Founder and CEO of Interstellar Technologies. Interstellar Technologies is an engineering and technology development company focused on advanced research and development for launch vehicles and propulsion systems that expand our reach into the solar system. Prior to forming Interstellar, Jeff was the Senior Director of Propulsion Engineering at SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA and served as the lead engineer and manager of methane engine systems including the Raptor engine development program. He has a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Dr. Zach Murphree, Vice President of Technical Partnerships at VELO3D. In previous roles with the company, Zach served as the director of business development, head of product and applications and head of the hardware engineering group. His background includes engineering roles for energy companies, where he was in charge of introducing metal additive manufacturing technology to a Fortune 500 energy company. Prior to joining VELO3D, Zach led North America sales for Concept Laser. He earned Bachelor of Science and PhD degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas and has been granted more than 35 patents.
