AIM Presentation at IPC APEX 2018

AIM Solder has announced that Dr. Mehran Maalekian, Research & Development Director at AIM, will present at the IPC APEX EXPO 2018 taking place February 27th – March 1st, 2018 at the San Diego Convention Center in California. Dr. Maalekian will share his knowledge and review the industry needs for solder alloys that can execute effectively in harsh service conditions, and will examine potential solutions for failed or flawed applications.

With the wide-scale adoption of the Sn-Ag-Cu (SAC) alloy as the de facto lead-free solder standard, the limitations of this alloy and its family are more clearly revealed. Specifically, SAC305 has shown poor creep resistance in harsh service environments. The new alloy, with higher strength and stable creep properties, shows increased thermal fatigue resistance compared with SAC305. It is demonstrated that the lead-free alloy can be a good solution for harsh environment electronics applications.

M23 connectors have standard power insert arrangements from 6 to 9 positions, up to 630 V and 28 A. Signal arrangements range from 12 to 19 positions, up to 160 V and 10 A. M40 power/signal arrangements range from 6 to 8 positions, up to 630 V and 75 A.

Additional technical specifications are available on Amphenol’s website.

Littelfuse Protection Thyristors

Littelfuse has introduced two series of SIDACtor protection thyristors optimized to protect equipment located in high exposure environments from severe overvoltage transients. The Pxxx0MEL 5kA Series and Pxxx0FNL 3kA Series SIDACtor protection thyristors provide increased reliability through multiple high energy surge events.

Unlike many non-semiconductor-based high power protective products, which can experience functional degradation after only a few surge events, the Pxxx0MEL and Pxxx0FNL Series are semiconductor-based components, and will continue to provide protection through multiple surge events without functional degradation.

Information concerning pricing and availability can be found on Littelfuse’s website.

Masterbond Corrosion Resistant Epoxy System

Masterbond has released the Supreme 34CA, a structural epoxy adhesive featuring improved resistance to aggressive chemicals such as acids, bases, solvents and oils. Serviceable from -62°C to 260°C, this solvent-free formulation has a working life of more than 24 hours per 100 gram batch at room temperature. It has good flow properties, a mixed viscosity of 7,000-20,000 cps, a mix ratio of 100 to 50 by weight and cures upon exposure to heat. This product can be dispensed manually or via automated dispensing systems.

Supreme 34CA has a tensile lap shear strength >2,500 psi and a tensile strength >12,000 psi. This electrically insulative epoxy has a volume resistivity of >1014 ohm-cm. It also features a Tg of 200-210°C and a Shore D hardness of >75.The color of Part A is black and Part B is amber. It is available for use in ½ pint, pint, quart, gallon, 5 gallon pail kits and in gun applicators. Supreme 34CA can be used as a corrosion resistant coating, as well as for bonding, sealing and filament winding applications.

SCHUNK Parallel Gripper

SCHUNK has launched the EGL PROFINET parallel gripper, a PROFINET-certified universal gripper with integrated electronics for users in the Industry 4.0 sector. With a variable gripping force between 50 N and 600 N, the gripper covers a wide range of components. In force-fit gripping, it can handle a variety of parts up to 3 kg alternately – circuit boards in the electronics industry as well as components in the assembly of consumer goods or in mechanical engineering.

The finger position, the closing speed and the gripping force can be freely programmed within the maximum stroke of 42.5 mm per finger. In order to shorten the cycle time, the fingers can also be pre-positioned wherever necessary with a speed of up to 150 mm/s. Thanks to its 24 V DC operating voltage, the gripper can be used in mobile applications.
