Dr. Chuck Vest is the President of the National Academy of Engineering and former President of MIT.

In this video he points out the value of hands-on education to inspire students in the fundamentals of science.

Chuck says that the statistics of engineering education in the USA are daunting. Parents and students don’t understand the value of an engineering education in the way that other cultures do. He showed us this sobering chart:

He says we’ve done a miserable job of communicating the excitement of these careers. That’s part of the reason for the Engineering Grand Challenges.
