SCIA has announced the release of SCIA Engineer 18.1, the company’s flagship structural design and analysis software. The latest version of SCIA Engineer extends the functionalities of multi-material design and BIM integration, adding new design tools, IFC4 import, a new post-processing environment, and more.

The new design tools in SCIA Engineer 18.1 include a calculation of the long-term deflections of slabs with ribs, the ability to design reinforcement in beams and columns, and the capability to check composite beams with multiple openings and calculate their vibrations. SCIA claims the latter tool allows users to more effectively design steel-concrete floor systems.

In an effort to promote information flow, SCIA Engineer 18.1 adds import support for IFC4 files generated in other BIM software like Allplan or ArchiCAD. SCIA Engineer 18.1 also provides import and export support for IFC 2x3.

SCIA Engineer 18.1 also offers a new post-processing environment that provides users with more detailed results. Enhancements include extended integration strips on 2D members, simplified visualization of deformations, ability to export results to an XML file, ability to export the Engineering Report to Excel, and different colors for point, line and surface loads.

“We have always incorporated the input of our users in developing SCIA Engineer,” said SCIA’s Cyril Heck. “Our consistent and close interaction with our customers enables us to respond quickly to their needs. I’m proud that we were able to deliver the requested enhancement after the release of SCIA Engineer 18.0 for composite beam design in SCIA Engineer 18.1. The future releases will reflect the valuable feedback we receive from our users through ‘SCIA Insider’ program, our conferences, events, etc.”
