Capvidia Aquires Pundit Inspection Simulation Software

Capvidia has recently announced the acquisition of Pundit CCM—an inspection simulation software package. Pundit is a product that helps reduce measurement uncertainty and is utilized by many manufacturers to streamline measurement planning processes, especially in the automotive, aerospace and defense industries.

Pundit is partly based upon NIST-developed technology and was originally commercialized by MetroSage LLC. One of the key achievements of Pundit is adding simulation functionality to metrology, allowing quality engineers to locate and evaluate tolerance and measurement issues early in the development cycle, before products enter the tooling and production phase.

Other important benefits enabled by Pundit include improved inspection planning, the ability to identify gaps in the inspection process, the generation of accurate measurement uncertainty estimates and ensuring compliance with national and international industry standards via measurement traceability.

As Daniel Campbell, MetroSage principal and Pundit’s key developer, stated, “Our initial decision to build Pundit using the QIF standard was pragmatic: It allowed us to focus our development efforts on our core value proposition—simulation and optimization of measurement uncertainties—rather than on tedious details of interoperability.”

“As QIF has matured as a technology, it has opened new doors, enabling us to provide high-quality support for model-based definition (MBD), semantic product and manufacturing information and traceability to authority CAD data—capabilities that, taken together, make possible a digital thread, supporting digital transformation initiatives such as model-based enterprise (MBE) and Industry 4.0.”

The CEO of Capvida Tomasz Luniewski also praised the acquisition of Pundit and the addition of Daniel Campbell to the Capvidia team: “Pundit is an excellent example of what’s possible when a software developer starts from a place of interoperability. Although we’re pleased to have acquired Pundit, we’re equally pleased to announce that Daniel Campbell, the product’s key developer, has joined Capvidia, bringing invaluable expertise in simulation, metrology and MBD/MBE.”

Capvidia specializes in the development of software for MBE interoperability. The company has produced integrated, standalone applications and components (SDK) for CAD, PLM, CAE and quality processes since 1994.
