3D printing recruited to produce tourniquets for Ukraine hospitals

It’s a bit gut-wrenching that this need exists, but it’s also another life-saving example of 3D printing meeting an emergency medical need. BNC3D reports that it has printed more than 300 pieces that can be used to create tourniquets to help civilian and military wounded for two hospitals in Ukraine, in the cities of Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro.

Ukrainian authorities requested this action due to the medical urgency. 3D printing can produce four pieces within 48 hours using the BCN3D Epsilon W50 3D printer. While these pieces do not replace other equipment approved by health authorities, they do aid official health teams temporarily.

BCN3D is donating this work and the pieces, which will be included in a convoy of humanitarian aid that left Barcelona. This donation has the support of the Ukrainian Consulate in Barcelona and some twenty social organizations supported by Barcelona City Council.
