Divergent Microfactories uses 3D printing to build parts for its supercar. The car needs only about 1/50 of the factory capital costs of non-3D printed cars. Divergent engineers are experimenting with how cars are made, so they developed a different process. They 3D print aluminum “nodes” that are assembled a bit like Lego blocks. The car is made up of 70 of these nodes. It took 30 minutes to build the chassis, which weighs 61 lb, by hand.

The Blade can go from 0-60 mph in 2.2 seconds. It weights 1,400 lb. It is powered by a 4 cylinder, 700 hp bi-fuel internal combustion engine.
