Geotechnical engineering jobs fall under a branch of civil engineering devoted to understanding the behaviour of earth materials, such as soil mechanics, rock mechanics, subsurface conditions and materials and evaluating the stability of natural and manmade earthworks. These engineers can work on mining projects, tunnels, dams, dikes and levees, reservoirs and hazardous waste storage or landfills. More Details
Geotechnical engineer jobs include responsibilities such as:
- Supervising the design, development and construction of earthworks projects
- Designing foundations, earthworks, pavement subgrades and other man-made earth structures
- Investigating project sites to analyze soil, rock and bedrock properties or fault distribution and offer solutions to problems surrounding land reclamation, water or air pollution and sustainability
- Assessing the risks of potential hazards such as landslides, sinkholes, rockfalls, earthquakes and overall stability of a project site
