Job Description:

Perform product development activities that support engine design, gas flow management, and engine development. In addition, provide design guidance, participate with development activities, review data, and participate in strategic calibration decisions to achieve the engine performance goals.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform engine cycle simulations and related analysis, using GT-Power, to support engine design and development efforts
  • Carry out other relevant analysis to support engine technology, design and development
  • Interact with engineers and consultants to ensure that correct measurements and data are available for developing and validating models
  • Work with other analysts (e.g. FEA, CFD) to provide applicable boundary conditions and other essential information
  • Interface with other Engineering functional groups and technical consultants to define performance and functional requirements and facilitate the procurement of test components
  • Coach and mentor the Test Technicians, Development Engineers and Design Engineers on relevant engine performance and emissions subject matter
  • Understand and perform engine development, performance testing and emissions analysis, engine cycle analysis, and engine calibration strategies to determine operating limits and recommend engine hardware/software configurations or adjustments to achieve desired results
  • Understand engine performance and emissions trade-off and select appropriate emissions control and aftertreatment devices that allow for strategic goals to be met
  • Understand the related emission regulations and coordinate with the EPA to allow for successful testing and certification of development engine families
  • Assist with developing test procedures and test reports addressing the performance, emissions and mechanical durability testing requirements of major phases of the product development program
  • Develop presentation material summarizing milestone results
  • Participate in and/or lead technical reviews
  • Research and understand competitor technologies and emerging technologies and provide input for strategic planning
  • Coordinate with functional Engineering groups to transition development activities into production

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and facilitate the maintenance of a safe working environment
  • Creative thinking, highly motivated, and the ability to work independently
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree required. An advanced engineering degree is preferred.
  • 8 years minimum of engine performance engineering experience (e.g. testing, combustion, emission formation, etc.) or 10 years minimum of engine engineering experience is required. Experience with engine performance simulation modeling and modern combustion monitoring equipment
  • Must have an understanding of turbocharged engine operation, exhaust emissions formulation, and engine performance variables
  • Working knowledge of GT-Power
  • Experience with performance simulation modeling and modern combustion monitoring equipment
  • US citizenship required due to government contract requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
  • Must be comfortable with calculations, numeric methods, and graphing
  • Interest in the topics of engine and thermal systems performance analysis, and diesel and natural gas emissions formation and reduction is required
  • The development group operates in a collaborative, trusting, and transparent manner. The candidate must thrive working in a team oriented environment.
  • Minimal travel required
