Job Description:

Summary 

Responsible for test setup, conducting performance testing, data collection, and data reduction required to implement the FME product development strategy

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical documents to determine methods and sequences of assembly
  • Review project instructions and specifications to identify, modify, and plan requirements for fabrication, assembly, and testing
  • Participate in planning activities for project development
  • Verify part dimensions or clearances to ensure conformance with specifications, using precision measuring instruments
  • Provide technical support for set-up and operation of prototype equipment that will be used for field test or endurance test
  • Provide shop set-up and operational support/training for new equipment released for production use
  • Assemble, operate, disassemble, and troubleshoot complex mechanical, fuel, electrical, and engine control systems
  • Tune electrical and mechanical systems for proper operation using PID control schemes
  • Set-up, or coordinate the set-up of test stand control and instrumentation to properly collect the required engine data
  • Compile engine data, perform preliminary calculations, prepare necessary graphs, write test reports and maintain test files
  • Conduct inspections and maintenance on engines and support equipment that are associated with engine development testing
  • Operate and perform daily maintenance of the gaseous and particulate emissions test equipment
  • Operate and perform the daily maintenance of the particulate filter weigh chamber and scale
  • Monitor the calibration of instrumentation and gauges to ensure completion on a regular schedule
  • Operate drill press, grinders, lathes, mills, or other machines to modify parts needed for experimental testing
  • Develop new techniques and applications that improve department efficiency
  • Participate in facility safety activities

Qualifications and Educational Requirements 
  • A minimum of a 2-year technical school diploma, certificate in a mechanical field or equivalent experience is required
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an engine testing / operating or highly technical product testing / operating environment
  • Must have the ability to qualify for a fork-lift operator license and obtain a crane card
  • Prior experience with engine PLC controls and monitoring is desired
  • Must be experienced with the fundamental operations of diesel engines
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to read Engineering prints and instructions
  • Must be able to use basic inspection devices such as micrometers, calipers, feeler gauges, bore gauges, etc.
  • Must understand the combustion process, engine performance, emissions characteristics, and the trade-off associated with each
  • Must understand turbocharger performance and operating characteristics
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Must be available to work flexible shift and work week schedules. Some overtime may be required.
  • Minimal travel required for training and beta test site support
  • US citizenship required due to government contract requirements
