Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
  • Under general supervision, conceives and develops solutions to engineering programs through the application of professional accepted engineering techniques, practices and procedures.
  • Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
  • Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
  • This is a construction engineering position that provides hands on engineering for hull, machinery, electrical, and piping for ship and shop maintenance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with all customers is required.
  • This position will require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites including those aboard ships under various stages of maintenance, including the use of vertical, and inclined ladders.
  • Prefer individuals experienced in remediate of contaminated equipment and data collection.
  • Prefer individuals with a background in Radiological controls.
  • Should be familiar with radiological instrumentation, terminology, and radiological units.
  • Prefer someone with a working knowledge of the difference between radiation and radiological contamination.
  • Prepares and inspects plans for assigned projects.
  • May participate in internal reviews.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a US citizen.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess strong technical writing, multitasking and verbal skills and work in a “team” environment.
  • Prefer previous shipboard experience with the ability to discuss technical issues with various levels of management.
  • Ability to interact with skilled technical trades by providing resolution to a diverse variety of shipboard encountered construction problems is essential, at times with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings and military specs.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Mechanical Engineer (ME) or MET degree preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to identify/evaluate problems, perform necessary shipboard troubleshooting and issue resolutions expeditiously, at times in a high stress environment.
  • Must be willing to support overtime (including weekends), shift work as needed/required, and construction/shipboard rotations.
  • Bachelor' of Science Engineering from ABET accredited program.
    Employee must be able to pass a physical, if required.
