Liquid nitrogen volcano

This is a demonstration of the explosive nature of water seeping under the plug of a volcano. When it hits the magma it boils and turns into a gas. This rapid increase in volume below the surface push everything above the expansion up...rapidly. This demonstration uses a small amount of liquid nitrogen in a plastic coke bottle. The bottle is weighted at sinks to the bottom of the barrel. Once the nitrogen expands the bottle to beyond it's breaking point, the water rushes in and causes the remaining liquid nitrogen to vapourize instantly. Again, sudden large pocket of gas at the bottom of the chamber, forces the water above into the air. Spectacular. Beware, should the bottle break free of the weight and float to the surface, it will create a very loud bang and spray you with shards of stressed pointy plastic. If this happens you need to 'leg it' really. Contact me for more details. Experiment conducted in Togo, West Africa.
