| Job Description: |
Reporting to the Vice-President, the Civil Engineer – Construction Project Manager plans and directs construction, renovations and maintenance for the Province of Ontario. The mandate of this position is to direct the strategy, planning, scheduling, costing and project management. As the liaison to the other functional departments in the company, the Construction Project Manager is responsible for communicating effectively with the Operations Group. This position will provide strong leadership in all aspects of the construction process relating to new, raise and rebuild and renovation projects, as well as special projects, including remodels and new concept roll outs. Ensure construction projects are performed within budget and on time and in accordance with all company and industry regulatory health, safety & environmental standards & procedures.
Individual required to have extremely high negotiating skills and must be a strategic thinker with a solid business financial base. The ideal candidate will be a driven, polished individual with experience in all levels and types of construction, to oversee the Engineering & Construction team as they complete projects and upgrades of a fast growing number of convenience store locations. This position will be accountable for delivering all projects on time and on budget, while providing strong leadership to the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Determine and approve specifications for every project. - Negotiate and then manage construction and renovation contracts within approved guidelines and/or capital budget appropriations. This will include negotiation of contract terms and conditions, fees and/or contract values, deliverables, quality control, and legal accountability - all done to assure that the financial and legal interests of the Company are protected and that liabilities and exposure to risk is minimized. - Prepares project schedules, budgets and tender documents. - Oversees procurement of equipment, and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules. - Oversees maintenance and upgrading of all construction specifications including fuel renovations. - Directs supervisory personnel and contractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures. - Manages inspectors and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods. - Liaises with general contractors, engineers, architects, designers, equipment manufacturers and other departments within the company to communicate project information. - Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction scope of work. - Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as needed. - Authorizes and monitors expenditures. - Prepares project approvals and coordination. Optimize the construction process. - Directs and develops every aspect of our store design in an efficient and sustainable way. - Excellent knowledge of mechanical and electrical services which provides buildings automation, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), etc. to the store network. - Optimize the network's use and management of every source of energy. - Other duties as assigned by the vice President of Operations, Central Canada.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Directly responsible for 4 employees in the Construction team. - Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. - Responsibilities include leading, planning, assigning, interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations and other issues that may arise within the Construction and Engineering group.
Previous Work Experience Required: - Minimum of six years experience in building construction in a retail environment or for a building contractor. - Minimum of three years experience in management. - Management experience in leading and directing capital design and construction initiatives. Expert understanding of project delivery methods, approval processes, creating and managing a transparent process, project estimating and cost control, tendering, architect and consultant selection, contract negotiation, budget management and responsible for project finance control, reporting, construction, project management and risk management. - Demonstrate excellent communications, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills to coordinate a wide range of responsibilities within the organization. - A strong, intelligent, proactive leader with a commitment to quality, an eye to detail and a commitment to best practices. - A superior team leader with proven effectiveness in customer service and in inspiring, developing and retaining a service-oriented team of highly skilled professionals. - Ability to provide guidance to contractors, architects and consultants, to make sure specification and/standards are met. - Working knowledge of Legislation, Codes and Zoning bylaws. - Open a great deal of travel anywhere in Ontario. - capacity to work under pressure. - Possess a valid driver's license.
Minimum Education Required: - University Degree in Civil Engineering. - P. Eng.
Computer/Software Skills: - Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point. - CAD an asset. |
