About POET The largest ethanol producer in the world according to the Renewable Fuels Association, POET is an established leader in the biorefining industry through project development, design and construction, research and development, plant management, and marketing. The 20-year old company currently operates 24 production facilities in the United States with three more in construction or under development. The company produces and markets more than 1.4 billion gallons of ethanol annually.
POET is now hiring for a Process Development Engineer for our Sioux Falls, SD office.
The Process Development Engineer will be responsible for the development and scale up of processes from lab scale to commercial reality.
1. Provide “hands on” support to benchtop, pilot plant, and plant trials Support ranges from creating experimental design to operating equipment. Interface with plant operators, maintenance technicians, and supervision to effectively achieve trial goals. 2. Collect trial data and draw conclusions based upon data. Make technology recommendations trial results. 3. Develop innovative technical solutions to improve plant performance, provide process alternatives or develop new products 4. Generate process flowsheets and heat and material balances on processes under development based on laboratory or bench scale data using Microsoft Visio, Excel, Aspen or other process simulation software. 5. Generate major equipment list and estimated capital project budget based on info prepared above and knowledge of standard equipment costing routines. 6. Support PRC ethanol & pilot plant operations as necessary. Support includes process troubleshooting, operator training, and DCS modifications 7. Generate detailed equipment specifications for pilot scale equipment to be located at POET Research Center. Coordinate procurement and installation of equipment with POET Design & Construction and POET Research Center. 8. Provide operational startup support at production plants to assist in the rollout of new processes/technologies to POET Biorefining facilities. 9. Prepare and deliver presentations on projects under development to relevant POET personnel. 10. Any other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5 years experience in chemical process industry, particularly as process engineer or equivalent in a production plant utilizing agricultural feedstocks. Experience with sanitary fermentation equipment requirements.
Minimum Bachelors of Science in chemical engineering or equivalent.
