Position Description: Under direction of the State Maintenance Engineer this position administers needs and priorities for facility projects in terms of the overall objectives of the agency.á This positionÆs primary responsibility is managing the $3.4 million public-private partnership contract over the 14 active ADOT safety rest areas.á Works with the contractorÆs project manager and other areas of ADOT to ensure proper execution of tasks of the contract.ááá Tasks include development and enforcement of inspection protocol; interpret contract provisions, partnership and negotiation with contractor.á Directs the activities of crews responsible for work on foundations, exterior walls, heating systems and air conditioning, sewage disposal, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems. Recommends budget for facility needs and implements sound cost controls.á Administers all phases of planning for all work start to finish and involves plan checking and meeting with project managers, consultants and contractor for each renovation, remodel and new construction project during the design and construction phases.á Initiates action to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and correct code violations. This position also has inspection assistance responsibility including reviews and verification that work is in compliance with contract documents and all applicable codes. Prepares reports regarding the activities and performs work as required. This position requires some in-state overnight travel.

Knowledge of:
-áááááPrinciples and practices of building construction in order to serve as a resource for ADOT management as well as other ADOT employees and others
-áááááBuilding construction materials; construction inspection methods, procedures and techniques for restoration methods In addition read and understand building plans, specifications and local code requirements; building trades and construction techniques
-áááááApplicable codes such as National Electrical Codes (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPAC), Uniform Building Code (UBC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and others; knows State and agency's policies and procedures, Procurement code, operating procedures and ADOT Facility Management (including Design and Construction ), and policy standards and procedures

-ááááAnalyzing and evaluating a wide variety of technical data; including, building plans and specifications; observing and determining workmanship and material deficiencies

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

-áááááBachelor's degree in engineering, facility management or comparable field
-áááááProject Management Professional (PMP)
-áááááMinimum of ten years building experience.á Thorough applicable training, education, and "hands-on" learning of National Electrical Codes (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPAC), Uniform Building Code (UBC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and other applicable codes.
-ááááInternational Conference of Building Officials (I.C.B.O.) certification

Note:á This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License.á Candidates for this position must complete and sign the Driver Form on page 6 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR).á The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.12 (H) and (I).á The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT.áá Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.á

RETIREMENT: This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).á ASRS enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment, if not already an ASRS member at the time of hire.
