Manage the engineering product development team to design and develop new high Performance Cable Assembly products. Coordinates electrical engineering laboratory test projects, and train electrical engineering staff. Perform complex electrical tests, analysis, and evaluations on products.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Manage, develop, train, and appraise Electrical Engineers and Technicians. Make daily work assignments and assess the progress of projects. Review and approve Test Reports authored by Test Engineers and Technicians. Review test methods and practices used by the supervised staff. Insure that department and policies are followed.
2.Conduct and manage several simultaneous tests and departmental projects with differing priorities for a division or specific business unit and provides general direction to lab personnel involved in assigned projects. Testing requires experience with digital sampling oscilloscopes (eye patterns, impedance, skew, TDR), pattern generators (PRBS, CJTPAT), network analyzers (insertion loss, return loss), spectrum analyzers, and bit error rate testers (BERT) required.
3.Perform product evaluation and performance analysis. Utilizing standard departmental procedures, develop and modify product test plans to establish performance and reliability of the products being tested. Prepare detailed and complex test reports.
4.Coach, mentor, and develop engineering staff. Empower assigned staff to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback on productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment. Participate in recruitment and selection activities.
5.Assist teams in the product design and development where necessary. Activities may include project coordination, concept development, scheduling, budgeting, hardware design, mechanical fixture design, design reviews, product qualification, maintenance of records, and other activities as needed.
6.Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among group members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the group to succeed.
7.Interface with the high speed development teams in the design, development, testing, and implementation of multi-gigabit cable assemblies. Multi-discipline team includes customers, suppliers, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and marketing.
8.Understand, support and contribute to current Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma, International Standards Organization (ISO) and Environmental, and/or Health and Safety (EH&S) Management Systems by following stated policies and procedures.
9.Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
SCOPE: Develops a strategic plan for engineering and design of current and new products within the division. Makes tactical decisions working with Director of Engineering as well as the operations team. Is accountable for revenue growth by giving direction to a team of engineers.
REQUIRED:òB.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering
PREFERRED:òM.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
ò10 years of professional experience in a laboratory evaluating connectors, switches, cable, etc.
òExtensive knowledge of s-parameter and TDR testing of connectors, cable assemblies, or printed circuit boards.
òProven project management skills to manage and complete several large projects simultaneously, which require support several different sources.
òWorking knowledge of EMC/EMI tests.
òDesign experience with electromagnetic transmission lines, schematic capture, PCB layout, and component sourcing will be helpful.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
òStrong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
òAnalytical ability to apply logical reasoning, test assumptions observes results and makes corrections.
òStrong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point software.
òProficient in the use of PC based statistical analysis software.
òDemonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
òDemonstrated knowledge of failure analysis.
òKnowledge of contact physics.
òExperience with microwave circuit design, and PCB layout.
òExposure to advanced PCB fabrication methods.
òElectromagnetic simulation with software such as HFSS or CST Microwave.
òLean/six sigma yellow or green belt training. Understanding and application of control charts, process capability, gauge R&R, and other lean/six sigma tools.
