Reynolds American (RAI) is also the parent company of Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, Inc., American Snuff Company, LCC and Niconovum AB. Position Description (Internal) R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company is seeking a Product Development Engineer to support product development and commercialization initiatives that deliver against new product platforms. With moderate to minimal guidance, the incumbent must be capable of executing projects leading to the development and implementation of products and processes. The individual must be able to perform in a highly diverse, multi-functional environment and communicate effectively to deliver against goals. In addition, the engineer must be able to effectively collaborate across numerous functional areas and with external vendors to solve problems, provide insights; and innovate new materials, products and processes. Position reports to the Director of Smokeless Product Development who is responsible for supporting Corporate initiatives around Modern Smoke Free Tobacco strategies. The engineer will be exposed to all product and materials development groups in the R&D organization and expected to quickly learn the business and establish a network. The incumbent must possess excellent project management and communication skills. This individual will manage multiple projects and must possess good time management skills. Minimal travel requirements apply. Key responsibilities will include: 1. Design experiments, gather analytical data, make critical observations, interpret results and communicate them effectively to peers and management. 2. Identify and interact with outside vendors. 3. Develop/implement/scale up innovative processes and/or materials which meet consumer needs. Position Description (External) R.J. Position Qualification MS or BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; strongly prefer experience in consumer products industry or related work and/or Demonstrated process development from concept to implementation Knowledge of new technologies and unit processes Excellent project management and team work skills Capability of conceiving and executing original research projects Proficient in Microsoft Office software Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of food science, emerging consumer products and associated formulations and processes Ability to apply new technologies from other industries to tobacco business
