Position summary Design and develop battery chargers and power supplies for standard battery chemistries and configurations. Tasks òCollaborate with marketing to develop detailed specifications that cover critical requirements òDetermine topology, magnetic requirements, and a block diagram outlining power dissipations òReview compliance requirements (EMI, safety, etc.) and identify impacts to design òTeam up with physical design Package constraints with mechanical concept and mounting features Determine PCB size constraints (X, Y, & Z) and mounting hole locations. Thermal design with heatsink and airflow requirements Review completed physical design and procure hardware when complete òComplete electrical design, schematic, BOM, magnetics, and PCB layout prerequisites. òCreate or supervise PCB designs; procure PCBs when complete. òCoordinate purchase of components and create AVLs for new parts òDirect the assembly and test of prototype magnetics and PCBs; integrate into physical design òDefine and direct characterization of completed prototype òComplete preliminary compliance reviews òIncorporate required changes into design documentation òCoordinate the construction of preproduction units with updated documentation òComplete compliance requirements and testing (internal & external) òRelease final documents and test requirements òAssist with production problems and update documentation as required. Skills and Attributes òA thorough understanding of power processing topologies; flyback, forward, push-pull, etc. òAdept at high frequency magnetic design; transformers, inductors, and EMI filter components òExperienced with the use of standard lab equipment; scopes, meters, spectrum analyzers, etc. òProficient in test and measurement techniques for high frequency power supplies òTroubleshooting abilities to locate problems and identify solutions. òFunctional understanding of heat flow and thermal design òCommunication abilities to understand and explain problems, findings, and resolutions òExperience with regulatory agencies (i.e. UL, CSA, IEC, VDE, FCC, etc.) òProficient in PC applications; Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD, and Altium Designer (PCBs) Experience and Education òBachelor's Degree òMinimum 6 years experience in the engineering field of power electronics
