Position summary Design and develop enclosures for electronic assemblies Tasks ò Collaborate with marketing to develop detailed specifications and mechanical requirements ò Determine enclosure constraints and mounting requirements ò Review compliance requirements (EMI, safety, etc.) and identify impacts to design ò Team up with electrical design o Develop mechanical concept from specifications and constraints o Determine PCB size constraints (X, Y, & Z) and mounting hole locations o Thermal concept (heatsink and airflow requirements) from power dissipation estimates o Review conceptual design for DFM (Design-for-Manufacturability) requirements ò Complete mechanical design; heatsinks, fabricated items, and fastener requirements ò Create or supervise PCB designs; procure PCBs when complete ò Coordinate purchase of hardware and fabricated parts; create AVLs for new purchased parts ò Support the assembly of prototypes; provide guidance on assembly sequence ò Define airflow and thermal characterization of completed prototype ò Support preliminary compliance reviews (UL, CSA, IEC, TUV, etc.) ò Incorporate required changes into design documentation ò Create assembly documentation for preproduction units including single-unit and bulk packaging ò Supervise the construction of preproduction units with completed documentation ò Support final compliance testing (internal & external) and supervise transportation testing (package integrity) ò Release final documents; fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, AVLs, and packaging requirements ò Assist with production problems and update documentation as required. Skills and Attributes ò Proficient in PC applications; Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Altium Designer (PCBs) ò A thorough understanding of materials (metals and plastics) and their basic properties ò Comprehensive knowledge of conventional fabrication techniques for metals and plastics ò Functional understanding of heat flow and thermal design ò Adept at thermal analysis and design; forced air, convection, and closed box ò Experienced with the use of standard hand and machine tools ò Proficient in defining fasteners and determining torque requirements for assembly ò Experience with screw-less enclosures; snap-fit, tab and slot retention, etc. ò Communication abilities to understand and explain problems, findings, and resolutions ò Experience with regulatory agencies (i.e. UL, CSA, IEC, VDE, etc.) Experience and Education ò Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent ò Minimum 3 years of experience in electronics enclosure design and analysis
