|Carries out research and development programs on a new or improved propellants to maintain or increase market share, lower production costs or improve product quality of Ball Powder @ propellant line.
Responsibilities to include the following functions:
-Provides technical assistance to other departments within SMP and for outside customers
-Conducts research and development programs (IRAD, B&P,CRAD, Commercial, and support to Operations). Insuring that the programs are technically accurate, on schedule and on budget and within strict safety guidelines
-Prepares and provides reports and presentations to peers, supervision and outside customers
-Participates in peer teams to maintain or increase market share, lower production costs or improve product quality Of SMP product line.
-Prepares and places work orders (requests) for R&D and QA laboratories and the Pilot Plant
-Observes, assists and directs analytical, process and ballistic experiments
-Prepares data in spreadsheets, analyzes ballistic and chemical data to support scale-up and new process and/or product development
-Conducts propellant thermodynamic and ballistic modeling
-Under supervision from manager, R&D product Development conducts product scale up efforts.
-Prepares all documents associated with product scale up including product designs, product specifications and product acceptance criteria
-Directs the manufacture of small R&D lots and assists in the manufacture of large production lots of propellant from design phase to lot acceptance/production
Amount of Education Required:
-Requires a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent 4-year Technical Bachelor's Degree. Ability to evaluate daily operating, quality and mechanical problems. Successful candidate must be "hands-on" and willing to work in an outside industrial environment. Strong troubleshooting and communications skills at all levels required.
-Sound and effective interpersonal judgment and decision-making skills and consistently utilize teamwork concepts and principles
-BATFE clearance required
-Must have a valid State Drivers License
-Days & Hours are: Mon-Fri 7:30am - 4:00pm & occasional O/T
