|Sr. Tool Designer
This position will be responsible for leading tooling projects for new product introductions and other major projects. The candidate will execute the concept, design, documentation, build and validation of a new or existing fixture. Project management duties will include developing project schedules. This team member should expect to manage several projects at various stages at any time.
This role will utilize the Production Preparation Process (3P) and proficiency with metalworking processes, tooling and fixturing and material conveyance methods to develop efficient solutions.
ò Participates in 3P activities to develop the flow of materials & information.
ò Analyzes manufacturing and tooling problems, and formulates solutions.
ò Designs drilling, milling, boring, checking, welding, lifting and assembly fixtures.
ò Makes assembly and parts drawings using SolidWorks modeling software.
ò Requisitions parts, materials and tools for fixtures.
ò Completes thorough documentation for all designs.
ò Collaborates with QA department on inspection methods.
ò Designs pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical circuitry with minimal assistance.
ò Capable of operating CNC mill and lathe
Candidate must demonstrate/provide the following skills and services:
ò 10+ years experience with tool and fixture design. Less experience may be considered.
ò Machine shop experience running a CNC mill and lathe (3-4 years is highly preferred) and CNC programming experience
ò Proficient Solid Works design experience; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
ò Ability to interpret blueprints and be able to work off of prints, sketches or verbal directions.
ò Background in tooling machining techniques and manufacturing practices.
ò Sufficient analytical skills to convert design and production concepts or instruction into tooling drawings.
ò Understanding of welding techniques and processes.
ò Thorough electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems knowledge.
ò Ability to conduct basic mechanical and structural analysis and experience using SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys.
ò Strong problem solving skills.
ò Background in the mechanical, physical and ergonomic aspects as part of proper tool design.
ò Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks and MS Office
ò Ability to generate computerized and hand drawings per ANSI standards.
ò Good inter-personal and communication skills
ò Associate or Bachelors degree in Engineering
