Golder Construction Inc. is seeking a Senior Construction Manager for the Calgary, Alberta office.

Reporting to the Alberta Construction Management Group Leader, the Senior Construction Manager will play a key role in an integrated design and construction team focused on the delivery of large earthworks and other heavy civil projects where Golder acts as OwnerÆs Agent. Additionally, the Senior Construction Manager will provide direct input into the development of construction management standard practices and processes. During the project engineering and design phase, the Senior Construction Manager will provide expert opinions relating to construction technology, methodology, sequencing, site management, workface planning, quality management, safety and other aspects of constructability. For the first 1-2 years of employment, this role may involve extended periods providing onsite construction management at remote locations throughout Western Canada. In time, this will evolve into an office-based position; however, frequent short-term site visits will still be required.

Responsibilities include:
Providing leadership and overall responsibility for project construction management;
Management of health & safety, cost, schedule, scope, and quality during construction;
Working in close collaboration with Project Managers, Design Managers, and project delivery teams;
Client relationship management;
Providing input towards project scope definition;
Providing construction perspective toward the development of engineering drawings and specifications;
Participating in project risk assessments and constructability reviews;
Providing input for preparation of proposals;
Reviewing cost estimates;
Working closely with project controls staff to monitor and report on project progress;
Supporting project procurement activities including review of trade contractor bids;
Providing input into the development of work packages;
Training and mentoring junior and intermediate staff;
Resolving technical and construction related problems as they arise;
Leading project meetings and ensuring that accurate records are maintained;
Performing site inspections;
Ensuring that standard construction management procedures are followed;
Overseeing application of GolderÆs ISO 9001:2000 certified Qualify Assurance program at the project level.




Job Requirements:


The preferred candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
Minimum 15 years of experience directly managing heavy civil construction projects in Canada;
Post-secondary education in civil engineering, construction management, project management or equivalent;
Specific experience with earthworks (including mass haul planning), geotechnical construction, and/or installation of wet utilities;
Working knowledge of heavy equipment as well as its applications and limitations;
Experience in health & safety management, construction estimating, planning, scheduling, cost control and contract management;
Experienced in management and supervision of site staff and trade contractors;
Experience working in the Alberta Oil Sands and/or surface mining is preferred;
Experience in marine construction would be considered an asset;
An understanding of mechanical and electrical systems would be considered an asset;
Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
Working knowledge of MS Project and Excel;
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment;
Available to work on remote sites for extended periods for the first 1-2 years of employment with frequent short-term travel thereafter.
