|Scope of Position:
To plan, support and lead tasks on material handling, automation and other projects, including:
ò Provide technical input on project scope and budget
ò Develop equipment and project timelines, and manage to ensure schedule compliance.
ò Interface with equipment vendors. Write RFQÆs, ensure compliance to design, quality and cost.
ò Apply new material handling systems & methods, to include automation and controls technologies
ò Improve existing material handling systems, methods, processes and capabilities
ò Develop material handling systems, methods and processes for the manufacture of new products and to improve manufacturing efficiency of existing products
ò Support manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, process control improvement, 6-Sigma
Day to Day Responsibilities:
To provide engineering expertise and leadership for material handling equipment systems and automation, processes, methods and technologies within the Environmental Technologies Division Engineering Finishing Technology group. Lead material handling, finishing technology and engineering project sub-teams. Responsibilities include:
ò Plan, organize and execute workstreams on projects to deliver improvement and step change capabilities
ò Project work scope typically includes design, development, manufacturing installation, start-up and acceptance
ò Role includes technical leadership, project workstream leadership and individual contributor responsibilities
ò Manage internal Corning and external vendor resources to complete project deliverables
ò Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges
ò Develop and deliver new ware handling, automation and control technologies and processes to manufacturing
ò Support development and execution of ware handling technology strategy, roadmap and project portfolio
ò Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
ò Apply project management and process engineering knowledge, skills and experience from concept through delivery of processes and equipment at manufacturing locations.
Projects Involved with:
ò Developing new and improving existing ware handling automation and control technologies, equipment, and methods.
ò Developing methods, processes and integrating measurements for the manufacture of new products.
ò Developing machines, methods, measurements and processes to improve precision, quality, cost and efficiency of finished part attributes.
ò Support manufacturing improvements, variability reduction, defect reduction, process control, capacity, and 6-Sigma.
Role Within Group:
ò Provide project workstream leadership, technical and process engineering skills to meet department goals and objectives
ò Member of Division Engineering Finishing Technology group
ò Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, materials engineering and upstream process experts to deliver step change and improvement of finishing technology capabilities
ò Some travel should be expected, dependent on project assignments. Some international travel is likely. Typical travel requirement is 20% - 30%.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
ò Typically 8 AM û 5 PM Monday û Friday, some flex time is possible to support project assignments.
ò Technical competence in mechanical or controls engineering.
ò Experience successfully developing and delivering technical projects to manufacturing
ò Experience with material handling or automation applications in machining, ceramics processing or measurement technologies.
ò Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team.
ò Achieve results through application of rigorous project management methods, such as 6-Sigma.
ò Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making
ò Demonstrated results developing and delivering controls and automation systems to manufacturing
ò Skills and experience with statistical process control and Design of Experiments methods
ò Experience with application of 6-Sigma methods
ò Demonstrated technical expertise in material handling, automation, machining, ceramics processing or metrology.
Education and Experience
ò BS, MS or PhD in an engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical or controls preferred)
ò 4 years experience in manufacturing, engineering or development
ò Leadership potential demonstrated on project teams responsible for implementation of new processes or equipment into manufacturing.
