There are excellent opportunities for creativity in some of today’s engineering courses. For example, student Cameron Mcleod, an Aerospace Manufacturing student was able to design and create his own electric guitar as shown in this popular video.
He built this one-off custom guitar to his own personal specifications in his school’s shop.
The process started with a 2D drawing of the outside profile of the guitar body. Cameron then made a 3D version in the CAD package, CATIA, and added cut-outs for the various components.
In the video you can see the models and then the cutting tool creating the guitar.
