When you hear the word NASA, what do you think? Do you think of the moon, the shuttle, the international space station? All of those things are hallmarks of the NASA program but NASA isn't just about exploration.
One of the most overlooked aspects of NASAs mission is developing fundamental research that can be translated into technologies further down the road. In a series of public service announcements filmed during the 80s celebrity duos were cast to describe some of the recent breakthroughs that space research had made possible.
John Madden & Chuck Yeager describe Search and Rescue Satellites
Ray Charles & Itzhak Perlman describe a Portable Reading Aide for the Blind
Willie Nelson & Frank Sinatra and Medical Imaging technology
Gerald Ford & Jimmy Carter describe Satellite Communications
Charlton Heston & Gloria Steinem describe Satellite Mapping and Geo-Informatics
Kareen Abdul-Jabbar & Willie Shoemaker describe Scratch-Proof Lenses
