Rick Stavanja is a CAD/PLM consultant, software developer, and founder of CADwire.net, a CAD information aggregator and search engine. The past two decades of his career led him from the design chair and into every aspect of the digital technologies designers and engineers now use to bring us the products that we use today. Rick studied Architecture at Montana State University, and now operates Tangra Solutions from Spokane, Washington.

SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual Announcement Breaks via Twitter
SolidWorks announced their long-awaited direct modeling tool to the public today at the SolidWorks World 2013 event in Orlando, Florida.  I've been looking forward to this event for some time now anticipating an announcement like this.  What surprised me however was that I found it easier to get the news via Twitter than from the more conventional digital sources.
