Inspiration for this post:
I came across some news Friday that absolutely MADE my week. Ray Kurland of Technicom tells us that the same guys that founded SolidWorks have come together again to start a new company. And this wasn't just a rumor passed along by some anonymous source, it was via a phone call from one of the original founders himself. John McEleney, the former SolidWorks CEO called Ray just to get the word out. The other four founders involved are Jon Hirschtick, Dave Corcoran, Scott Harris, and Tommy Lee (no, not *that* Tommy Lee). I'll just refer to them as the 'Brain Gang' from now on.
Kurland gives us an overview of the phone call, its highlights, and his opinions. There really aren't many specifics at this point, but given their proven history of innovation, there's plenty of reason to be optimistic for what the Brain Gang has in store for us.
As far as I'm concerned, the important point of Ray’s post is this...
...(they) will explore and develop solutions for the product development space.
To me, that translates to “Proven innovators are working to bring engineers and designers new product development tools”. How can you not be excited about that?!
Over the past decade or so, I’ve had the pleasure to speak with both John McEleney and Jon Hirschtick (who calls me “Rick who?") a handful of times, and I’ve always came away thinking about issues from a completely new perspective. I look forward to seeing where their vision will take the industry this time.
Well, it looks like it's time for me to go breath into a paper bag while I lay on the couch for a little while again.
Thanks for sharing the news Ray! If anyone else has any opinions on this, feel free to let us know in the comments below…
