I tried to write something semi-intelligent about this, but I couldn't.  It's 27km long, located on the border of France and Switzerland and will be used to study particle physics.  Even if you don't understand what it's for, the engineering is impressive.

Re: Large Hadron Collider Images

Even if the collider were to fail to unravel any mysteries of the sub-atomic world, the engineering that went into building the collider is an extraordinary feat on its own.

Re: Large Hadron Collider Images

The unprecedented lack of curiosity by the media on the most expensive, controversially risky scientific experiment in history is disconcerting to say the least. Any major project covered in a cloak of silence, will obviously breed fear amongst those who don't know what the intentions are, of those who have poured massive amounts of time and money to accomplish...what? There seems to be only speculation on the implications of such a machine. I see no valid reason as to why these risks should be taken. I haven't seen anything but speculation from scientists involved in this project. There has to be more to this venture than what is being spoken of for it to have been worth a 6 billion USD+ investment. In my very unscientific opinion this will be a 6 billion dollar goose egg.

Re: Large Hadron Collider Images

I agree with the above but the dole statistics wouldn't have looked good with 2,500 scientists signing on!

Re: Large Hadron Collider Images

I heard that Large hadron collider stopped working just after a few hours of its starting. My friend told me that he heard this in a private news channel in Switzerland. If this is true then it was the waste of hard labor of the scientists and also the money which was being invested int the biggest experiment ever. I think my friend is crazy he is drunk that day and poker rules, his mind. But i still haven't found out that, what are the outcomes of the experiment.
