We’ve just launched a new “Careers” tab on ENGINEERING.com with brilliant new technology and content.  And before you think we’re shamelessly self-promotional I’m going to confess that none of the technology nor content is ours.  Instead we partnered with My Perfect Gig, a career-matching start-up company from Boston.  They’ve spent tons of time and money to build the best career planning and job search engine for engineers.

What they have is a skill cloud that let’s you select your skills to see the sorts of jobs that are available for your skill set.  You can also see what other skills you might want to add in order to have your skills more closely match more jobs.  It’s all dynamic and somewhat addictive.  Give it a try at http://www.engineering.com/Careers/tabid/5175/Default.aspx  We’re going to do some press releases around this later in the month, but if you read it here, you can take an early look.

I’m curious to get some feedback on this, so please post a response or send me an email at jhayes@engineering.com.

Re: Engineer your career

The idea is great. You have said that you have developed the perfect search engine for the engineers. That is a welcome note. Hearty wishes. One thing surprised me in that is the differentiation done in the Computer and Software Systems. Most of the profile would have both under the same umbrella. But now that, everything is distinguished and more of opportunity.

Re: Engineer your career

I am curious why you opted to join with one company, when you could have worked with many people here to come up with this. Thus giving more engineers the opportunity to take part in how they board works and where to take the job search. I am not always sure that people are happy with what you have opted for a skills set that tells them what jobs are best for them.
