I rely on life support equipment.
I live in an apartment in NYC.
Obviously it is impossible for me to have a generator in my apartment.
What would be needed to make a generator that does not rely on fuel.
Is there anything like this available?.
I do not think solar generators would be feasible in my situation.
Thank you so much for your time.

    balcatara:

It sounds like you need what is known as a UPS -uninterrupted power supply.

These are typically in the form of battery packs which are constantly recharged and topped of from the mains power. They are not inexpensive.

How much power do you need and for what period of time do you need to maintain that power in the event of a power failure?

As an alternative have you considered working with the build management to make use of the building's back up energy system.

If it helps, my respirator runs on 120, and is used 24 hours a day.

The other two machines also run on 120, but not continuous for 24 hours.

How much current does your resperator need or how many Watts does it consume per hour.

You should be able to get this information from the name plate of your machine or from the company who maintains it for you?

    I have 5 machines.
The respiratoe stays on 24 hours a day, but Iuse the other constantly.
Roughly speaking, they pull each about 250 watts per hour.

    Enrique:

This means you would be drawing 1KW, So to run for 24 hours without power you would need 24KWh.

There are small generators on the market which are in that size range, but as you noted you are not really going to be allowed to store the necessary fuel.

A uninterupted power supply (UPS) would be an alternative, but you will need extra batteries to run for the extended periods of time you are talking about.

Doing the detailed analysis to determine your exact needs is beyond the charter of the forum, but I am sure that some one near you could assist you in making the correct choice.

    Hello.
Neil, I have been given a charger that seems too good to be true.
The guy says it can hold the charger for 35 hours .
    What can you tell me?
    COMPANY; GOAL ZERO
    MODEL: SCAPE 150
    INPUT: Ac 110-220v
    OUT PUT: Ac110v/80w,usb,12v ??

Thank you again for your time

Did you mean Goal Zero's Escape 150? http://www.goalzero.com/shop/p/60//1:4/

Based on the description provide that will not what you expect it to do.

According to the information provided above you will ned a much bigger system. The inverter on that device only supply 80W of power at 110/120V AC.

You indicated that your most critical picec of equipment need 250 Watts.

Looking at there other system you need something more like the Yeti 1250

    http://www.goalzero.com/shop/p/140/...rator/2:8/

It terms of power output, but this only has 1.25 KWh of reserve so that system would only be good for about 5 hours.

I am not making any particular recommendation here other than to say the Escape 150 appers to not be big enough to do the job you need it to do.
