I have 2.6 mm(2+0.6) thickness of plate for lap joint now i want select the rivet dia. How to calculate rivet dia for lap joint.If anybody knows please let me know.assuming zero load acting on it.????????

The design of bolted and riveted joints are usually calculated based on the loads across the joint and how they are applied. Riveted joints are typically shear joints so you need to calculated the shear area of all the rivets involved.

What type of device are you building where you anticipated zero forces across the joint?

Actually these rivets are used in aircraft panel but i don't know the exact location and how much load is acting on it.This calculation is for flat plate on which thin stiffeners are mounted.Boht of these are joined by riveting.so for that i want to calculate the rivet dia.
