    Hi All.

I'm new to this forum but to be honest should have joined a while ago.

To give you abit of background, my business partner and I run a bespoke polished concrete company. We design and manufacture ... bespoke polished concrete products, such as countertops, sinks, baths, furniture etc.

As you will all be aware concrete rather heavy, even when we are using our secret lightweight mix design (we can in some cases reduce the weight by half!)
In essence we build moulds and cast the concrete into those moulds on top of steel framed tables.

These tables are rather beastly and now that our modest business is growing we require more table space...which leads me neatly onto my question.

Funds are limited being a small business and would prefer not to outlay the best part of £1000 for a 3000mm x 1200mm table fabricated from steel.

My business partner is convinced that this is the only option however I'm not. I have a limited working knowledge of aluminium and think that we can build our own table from Al which would be cheaper and also they would be moveable should that be required. We could potentially have up to 1000kg on table spread over the 3x1.2 tabletop area although unlikely.

    So here is the question (and its a it cheeky I know).... If we were to construct a table out of aluminium profile, just the frame that is, like;

    Plan View
    ----------------------------------------------
    I I I I I I I
    I I I I I I I
    I I I I I I I
    I I I I I I I
    I I I I I I I
    ----------------------------------------------

    Side Elevation

    ----------------------------------------------
    I I
    I I
    ----------------------------------------------
    I I
    I I
    I I

    Front Elevation
    ----------------------
    I I
    I I
    ----------------------
    I I
    I I
    I I

what size section should be using? What centres should we use on the table top?

Also if anyone would like to design such a table for us and charge us a small fee then we would would be very happy for this to happen as long as it won't cost an arm and a leg!!

Anyway, hopefully this out of the ordinary problem will whet someone's design!!

    Many thanks in advance,

    Toby
