    Hey everyone.

I'm looking for some direction on technologies I might use to create the following type of system for an industrial application.

    - There will need to be a "sensing surface" of some sort that will provide information about what is in contact with it. The surface will need to be fairly thin and a few feet long,

    - There will be several additional devices that will be in contact with the sensing strip that will need to be uniquely identified both by type and location on the sensing surface.

I have looked into RFID, but I don't think that will fit the bill for a number of reasons including the environment. Any other thoughts on types of technologies I could use to accomplish this? I'm kind of stumped.

    Thanks in advance!
