We have a Caterpillar generator of 256KW 320KVA, so how do we find the initial cost per KW. The capital cost of the generator is 20,000$.

Use the KW figure to divide the capital cost by. This is the power the generator supplies to the load. The KVA figure is the power the generator must produce in order to supply full load and also overcome losses. For running costs per KW, you will find this by experiment, seeing how much fuel you burn at full load.
