    Hi people,

I have a college question that requires me to tolerance several parts to BS and ISO standards. I have found how to tolerance holes and the shaft diameter but cannot find how to tolerance the length of the shaft.

    Can anyone help?

    A. B.

There are a number of ways to tolerance the along length of a shaft according to GDT standards. They include:

    1. Straightness.
    2. Total indicated run out
    3. True position

Each tolerancing system has advantages and disadvantage.

If you are only talking about the overall length and not the profile along the length then a simple length tolerance is sufficient.
