    In a car with CVT would max acceleration occur at the peak horsepower RPM or peak torque RPM?

    Acceleration is a function of force. The higher the force the greater the acceleration.

    Torque is force x distance

    As a result maximum acceleration will occur at maximum torque.

    This is true for a conventional transmission or a CVT.

    I think you're wrong with your answer of

    If that were true then why would drag cars run at extreme RPMs when their max torque is at 3 to 4 thousand RPM?

    Drag racers run at extreme RPM's because they only have a limited number of gears and properly designed engine may have it peak at 3-4K but does not have a big drop off in torque once the peak occurs.

    As noted on the site you referenced, it is better to have you peak torque at higher RPM then at lower RPM.
