I want to know if there is any formal standard or procedure for a mechanical prototype verification. Do product companies follow the practice of creating such procedures, which may be required for some kind of certification or compliance to some standard.

Prototype is just that PROTOTYPE. You can whatever you want at first then depending on the company you work for standards will have to followed.
