I have recently reverse engineered a pump room for a job on which I was engaged (in the UK) and have the following input: The system fed several buildings on an industrial site from a single pump room. the pressure in the pump room was maintained at a steady 10 bar by means of a jockey pump set to the same. There was an electric duty pump (250kW) and a diesel back-up unit. The Electric pump was set at 9.8 bar and the diesel unit at 9.5bar. The sequence was such that if the sprinklers activated, the electric pump would kick-in to maintain the pressure to the active sprinklers.....if sufficient sprinklers activated to induce a sufficient pressure drop, the diesel unit would also activate, both running at the same time., If the number of active sprinklers was such that the electric pump was sufficient, then the diesel unit would remain inactive, but would also take over in the event of a power failure.
