I assume you are talking about Plaxis Geotechnical Software [1]

Below is are some links that discuss axisymmetric [2] and plane [3] strain modeling from rocscience.com.

They should give you some guidance as to the differences both Rocscience's Phase2Model and Plaxis Geotechnical Software should be using the terms in the same way.
