Difference between Software Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering? View All
I'm currently doing my Bachelor of Engineering and am trying to decide if I should to major in Software or Computer Systems.
What are the differences between these two majors in terms of job opportunities and versatility after graduation?

Computer systems engineers construct motherboards and sometimes program basic computer software such as the BIOS. Software engineers write programs and applications to interact with the hardware.

I believe software engineers focus on the software development (programming, testing, etc.), and the computer systems engineers focus on developing functional ways of managing and transfering information through computer basic software and hardware.

Software Engineers design softwares and try to improve a software like AutoCAD and any other type of softwares. Computer Engineers design computer, like monitors, motherboard, mouse etc. Dont expect to have a degree in either one and live in a small town. But Software engineers earn from $50,000 to $60,000 in their first year. After many years of experience they get up to $120,000. But it all depends on what type of firm you work for.
