Over the past few weeks I’ve been traveling with Adrian Nash, ENGINEERING.com’s Sales Director to meet with engineering marketers about their 2013 plans. This series of blog posts will cover some of the trends we've learned about – what’s worked in 2012 and what they plan to do in 2013.
The first big trend is that engineering marketers plan to do more digital marketing in 2013. The reasons they gave were i) internet marketing costs less and ii) it's measurable. These engineering marketers aren't alone. The IAB says that Internet marketing spend in the first half of 2012 increased by 14% over last year as shown in this chart from the report by the Internet Advertising Bureau and Price Waterhouse Coopers.

For engineering marketers the trend to digital translates into more budget for content creation and distribution. If anything is feeling the pinch in the budgeting cycle, it seems to be live events and trade publications.
Are you seeing this trend in your marketing budgets as well?
