We launched an ENGINEERING.com iPhone app a few weeks ago. “Why would you launch an iPhone app?” you might ask.
The answer is, “To get a moment of attention from an engineering audience.” We find that we have to beat out competition from anything else that might grab the attention of our audience. To increase our chances of being heard, we need to be everywhere they are likely to read, watch or listen.
As a publisher (and all marketers are becoming publishers), we need to make it easy, convenient and even fun for engineers to hear our messages. That’s why we have a stream of shows on iTunes, why we have a Facebook page, and why we add a dose of engineering humor to our stories.
I’m not advocating that every engineering marketer needs an iPhone app. However, if you believe that inbound marketing and a content strategy will be part of your overall marketing mix, you might want to consider how you will get your stories heard.
