A recent survey by HubSpot reviewed over 90B emails sent through MailChimp. The data says that the best time to send email is on weekends. They interpret that to mean that people have a lot more time to read through marketing emails on the weekend.
By “best time” they mean the emails get the highest click-through rate and the lowest unsubscribe rates when sent on Saturday or Sunday. The worst time seems to be Tuesday at noon.
The next question the HubSpot analysts tackled was the time of day, and found that the highest CTR was for times between 6:30-7:30 am Eastern time. CTRs gradually declined through the day, but not on a very steep curve, such that whether you send an email at 11:00 am or 4:00 pm didn’t seem to make a big difference.
We plan to test this theory with our engineering audience next weekend. We should have the results out by mid next week.
