If you think that your prospects are too old and too technical to be reached online, think again. Pew Research published a report on Dec 16 2010 that is relevant to engineering marketers. The report points out that 76% of people aged 46-55 said they go online to get their news. If you are buying ads in a technical publication, you might want to look at their digital rates and forego the pricey print ads.
They also report that more than 90% of all people over the age of 17 use email. So if you have a technical message to send, you might try sponsoring an email blast rather than relying solely on search ads or banners.
Another surprising fact from this survey is that the percentage of adults who watch video online jumped to 66%. That’s a large audience, so making technical videos may fit your audience needs.
And finally, over 20% of people aged 55 and younger go online to download podcasts. Now that’s interesting! There are very few engineering podcasts available on iTunes right now.
